Occupational Safety & Health
Cultivating the culture of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) has been the Group's priority in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for its staff and the community at large. The Group's commitment in OSH is reflected through the establishment of five sector-based sub committees namely, Transportation, Forestry, Corporate Services, Agriculture and Manufacturing.

As part of its commitment in OSH, the Group established the Yayasan Sabah Safety Passport (YSSP) in 2013 in collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Through YSSP, contractors or individuals dealing with the Group will be required to attend and pass the OSH training in order to obtain the YSSP. Subsequently, NIOSH will issue the YSSP Card to participants who have passed the assessment which shall be valid for a period of three years. The card will only be renewed upon the YSSP card holder's attendance to the refresher training programme and re-assessment exercise. The YSSP is also used as one of the pre-conditions for contractors bidding for contracts from the Group.

The Group's involvement in OSH is extensive that through its wholly-owned company, Rakyat Berjaya Sdn. Bhd. (RBJ), the Group was given the trust to implement the Mentor-Mentee Programme by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) since 2014. Through this programme, Government-Linked Companies were given the responsibility as mentors in guiding companies in the Small and Medium Industries to improvement OSH practices in their respective premises. As a mentor, RBJ implements appropriate trainings and guidance on matters relating to occupational safety and health to its contractors while being monitored by DOSH as the facilitator.

The Group, through RBJ has been recognised for its OSH practices and has been awarded with the National Excellence Award on OSH under the Forestry Category since 2006 for 10 consecutive years. This significant achievement further pushes the Group to make a step forward in OSH practices. With the newly established Sabah Integrated Petroleum Academy Sdn. Bhd. (SIPA), the Group aims to develop competent individuals through learning opportunities that complement their jobs and promote individual career growth.

SIPA is a purpose-built training centre, specialising in Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) training for the oil and gas, marine and all industries throughout the country. It aims to be the leading specialist in the provision of a world-class technical and HSSE training at national level and eventually across the globe. SIPA also aims to be the first training centre in Sabah to be accredited to OPITO (Off Shore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation) and the International Association for Safety and Survival Training.
