Yayasan Sabah College of Technology (YSCT)
mission is to contribute and complement the efforts made by the Yayasan Sabah Group in improving the quality of life of the people of Sabah through education and life-long learning.
Among others, the objectives of YSCT are to offer industry-related courses; to provide educational opportunities to students in rural areas; develop competent students as well as produce skilled human resources in line with the requirements of the country.
Towards this end, smart partnerships are built with relevant industry players, educational and training institutions. On the development of human capital, YSCT is working closely with the government to equip its students with the necessary skills in meeting the job market's requirements.
As such, YSCT has taken a new approach in education by adopting a Competency-Based Training approach by providing the students training and placing them in the job market. The objectives are to produce more K-workers as well as to meet the demands of the industry.
Certificate programmes offered under the Malaysian Skills Development Programmes, among others are Office Management, Automotive Technology, Building Construction, Welding Technology, Pastry and Culinary, Electrical Technician and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning.
The Diploma Programmes offered are Automotive Technology, Building Construction Technology, Business Management, Early Childhood Education, Electrical Technology, Management Technology (Collaboration with UTM), Accounting (Collaboration with UTM), Property Management (Collaboration with UTM), Computer Science (Collaboration with UTM), Syariah Finance (Collaboration with KUIM) and Islamic Studies with Human Resources Management (Collaboration with KUIM). In conjunction with the collaboration between Yayasan Sabah Group and University Malaysia Pahang (UMP), YSCT also offers the Foundation in Science programme.
All academic diploma programmes conducted at YSCT are approved and accredited by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), and the vocational skill programmes are conducted under the approval of the Department of Skills Development.
YSCT has also been awarded 4 STARS in the MyQuest rating for 2018/2019 by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges or MyQuest is an instrument developed by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (now Ministry of Education) in 2009 to evaluate the performance of private higher education institutions of college status in Malaysia.
Designed to encourage quality improvements among the colleges, MyQuest looks into 5 core quality criteria, which are student profile, programme recognition, graduate recognition, quality of resources and soundness of governance.
Not all colleges are rated under MyQuest, as only established colleges are invited to participate in the rating. The following are criteria that must be fulfilled for a college to be rated:
- Must have completed the graduation at least one of intake
- Must satisfactorily fulfil all 5 quality criteria : Student Profile, Programme Recognition, Graduates Recognition, Quality of Educational Resources and Institutional Management.
- The rating given by MyQuest will be in a form of different achievement levels as follows :
- 6 Stars : Outstanding
- 5 Stars : Excellent
- 4 Stars : Very Good
- 3 Stars : Good
- 2 Stars : Satisfactory
- 1 Star : Poor
